Are We a Reflection of Him?

I’m not always

Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Colossians 3:9–10

It hurt when I noticed an old friend had unfriended me on a social media site. I imagine the rude words of my adult son might have played a part.

We may think our children reflect us, but they do not. Yes, they may look like us and have many attributes, mannerisms, and talents like ours, but as adults, they reflect on their own. It saddens parents when adult children make choices that do not align with the social, spiritual, and physical codes we taught them when they were young.

I pondered this when I felt a nudge from my Abba Father.

Are we any different regarding our Heavenly Father? We are made in His image but fall short of acting like Him. We sin by our thoughts, words, and deeds. Is the Father pained when we turn away from Him, breaking the perfect mirror image He made, shattering it into many pieces?

Then Christ, who was God but did not exploit that fact, came in human form. He gave Himself as a ransom for our broken souls by His death on the cross. Christ removes the garments of our old selves. He bathes us in His grace of forgiveness and clothes us in His new wardrobe of redemption. Although we sometimes fail, our minds renew in the Creator’s image. Through Jesus Christ, we are indeed a reflection of Him to the glory of God the Father, as we bow at His feet and proclaim Him as Lord forever.

Do we always reflect Christ to others?

At times, I admit to losing my battle with my old self and my new self. Even Paul said in Romans 7:21

So I find that, as a rule, when I want to do what is good, evil is right there with me.

Yes, we live in an evil world that pulls in many directions, but we also live in grace which gives us an image of Christ.

The Lord is good to me and has helped me. I want to share what He can do for others as He has done for me and to see the light that is there inside them.
